2007 VTEA Manufacturers Survey
Background:
The Small Manufacturers’ Institute (SMI) was tasked by the Sierra College VTEA Team to survey California Manufacturers for Career Technical Education data at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ (SME) 2007 WESTEC Exposition & Conference held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A copy of the Employer Survey Form is attached.
Interview Results:
A total of 25 individuals were interviewed by SMI at WESTEC 2007. A detail recap of the survey results is attached. Below is an evaluation based upon the results:
1. Local community college near company?
96% At least one college (including 20% two or more) + 4% Don’t know
2. Company interested in college contact?
68%% Yes + 12% Don’t Know + 20% No
4. Company interested in a specific subject?
64% Yes (including 40% two or more subjects) + 6% Don’t Know + 12% None
Combined Survey Conclusions:
Direct interview contact results in valuable CTE data for the California Community College VTEA Program and individual colleges.
Most manufacturers are located near a college.
Over two thirds of the manufacturers are interested in a college contact.
Approximately two thirds of the manufacturers are interested in one or more specific subjects.
The California Community College system should consider funding a direct telephone telemarketing approach by geographic region to obtain the desired data regionally.
