College Links Students to Employers

In 1998, Sierra College was instrumental in writing a successful School-To-Career grant serving K-16 students in Placer and Nevada counties.  With the completion of the grant in June 2003, the college will relieve the Placer County Office of Education as the lead agent, rename the project “Sierra Career Partnership”, and focus on career exploration by connecting college students with local employers.  Key features of the project include:

  • An online database that currently lists over 1,600 work-based opportunities; and allows employers to enter opportunities for interviews and internships and students to request opportunities in specific occupational areas;

  • A Community Learning Coordinator that acts as the liaison between the employer and the student to ensure a good “fit,” provide technical support such as job interview skills, and conduct evaluations on employer and student satisfaction.
