Economic Development Department, International Association of Machinists, and local employer win 2002 Innovator of the Year award |

A collaborative effort between Goodrich AeroStructures Group, the International Association of Machinists (IAM), and Riverside College’s Economic Development Department resulted in the winning of the Innovator of the Year award in April 2002 from the California Economic Development Network. A yearlong training program for Goodrich employees was conducted, focusing on courses in shop math, blueprint reading, hands-on machine operation, and other subjects to assist them in fabricating GRID-LOCK, a patented technology used by the Aerostructures Group. The program resulted in donations of time, equipment and material to the college, and Goodrich employees acquired significant skill sets that improved job performance and future manufacturing career potentials.
