Robot serves as Training Aid for K-6 Recycling Education Program

In 2001, Waste Management Inc. of Chino partnered with Riverside College’s CACT to refurbish “Cycler,” a four-foot high robot that was created in the early 1990’s as a training aid for a K-6 recycling education program.

By 2000, Cycler had been through so many presentations that he was worn out and needed some major repairs.  But the company that had created Cycler was no longer in business and representatives from the Waste Management Community Relations program were struggling to find someone with the skills and abilities to conduct needed repairs.

James Sutton, Senior Applied Technician at the CACT, had previously rebuilt several similarly retired manufacturing robots and placed them in service as training aids for the college’s manufacturing students.

Jim successfully refurbished Cycler, and the Waste Management Community Relations program once again had its well-loved mascot to teach children about the value of recycling.
