This is an introduction to the basic principles of adult learning theory and factors that influence learning.  It will look at the different learning styles and how to use these differences to become a more effective teacher.

      II.            Communication of Learning (2 hours)

This covers the elements of effective communication and how to use these elements to help participants learn.  Methods of sending information, giving and receiving feedback, and listening and adapting a presentation to meet learners’ needs will be researched and discussed.

    III.            Leadership and Group Dynamics (2 hours)

This session looks at the main styles of leadership and discusses the traits and role of a leader in the classroom.  It also introduces the concept of group process and its impact on the way instructors conduct a class.

   IV.            Administration and Classroom Management ( 2 hours)

This session deals with the importance of the first classroom session, including how to set up the room, lesson planning, teaching and conducting the session,  as well as administrative duties and maintaining classroom discipline.

   VI.            Instructional Aids (1 hour)

This session will show how and when to use a variety of instructional aids.  Instructional aids are tools used to supplement, complement, and reinforce training.  Instructional aids provide another channel to send and receive information.

 VII.            Evaluation Techniques (2 hours)

This session focuses on methods and purposes of evaluation.  It will look at types of assessments that can be used to assess student learning and document results related to the course’s Student Learning Objectives (SLO’s).

   IX.            Theory of Needs (2 hours)

This session is to introduce faculty to the Theory of Needs and its importance in the classroom.

     X.            Motivation in the Classroom (2 hours)

This session is to introduce faculty to motivation and its importance in the classroom.

d)      Discuss the humanistic view on motivation

e)      Discuss the impact of cooperative learning in the classroom
