Monterey Community College Monterey Community College career center staff have achieved some success with curriculum integration through outreach to basic skills English instructors who are familiar with the career center.
The
instructors use the center for resume writing as a part of their
instruction. The staff use this opportunity to orient the students to the
career center. Additionally, career center staff go into vocational, marine and technology, graphics arts, English Technical Writing, Basic Skills English, and English Second Language classes to deliver career development information and activities such as assessments, career orientation, and an orientation to the career center. Especially with ESL classes, the Career Center Coordinator uses the Holland codes in hour - long presentations and has the students do activities on two levels. One of the English classes uses the center to do research on a careers of the students’ choosing. The assignment is a part of a writing assignment and is assessed by how well they utilized the center and the content of their career center research.
