These elements represent the broad range of the most effective actions teachers take, and requisite conditions teachers establish, to facilitate learning. I have tried to make this listing brief, to serve more as a reference to the scope of excellent teaching techniques than as a source of enlightenment. For detailed information on items that are unfamiliar, refer to the works cited.

Introduction- Efforts by Federal Agencies to Develop Occupational Curriculum for Entry- ...

One of the continual challenges facing secondary and postsecondary vocational educators today is the development of relevant curriculum for their programs.... If being both "technically up-to-date" and providing "context" for particular career pathways matter, where do vocational administrators turn for the expertise?

...The federal government has attempted to respond to the need for relevant occupational curriculum in a number of ways. The work of the National Skill Standards Board (NSSB) has been to develop and disseminate industry-based skill standards.  ~ more....  click on link above.

Publication for Increasing Parent's Awareness of Nontraditional Careers

In a study conducted in the Fall of 2001 by Ferris State University Career Institute for Education and Workforce Development, parents were identified by students as the primary influencer of their future career choice. With this in mind, and in an effort to support the work you are doing to increase the participation and completion of students in nontraditional career and technical education programs, the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity Foundation, in partnership with Career Communications, will be developing a Parent Edition of the American Careers magazine that is focused on nontraditional careers. For more information on the American Careers publications go to www.carcom.com  where you can see information about the regular parents magazine. All profits from the sale of the publication will be donated to the NAPE Education Foundation to support the Foundations activities. For more information on the NAPE Education Foundation go to www.napequity.org/nape_education_foundation.htm.

The magazine will highlight nontraditional role models, include information about nontraditional careers, wage earning potential and economic self-sufficiency. The magazine will continue to have a section on getting started, exploring careers and future planning and be organized around the 16 career clusters and pathways. The publication will include a 9th -16th grade career planner and will be applicable to high school and community college populations. This professional publication will be a great tool for local school districts and community colleges to use at a parent education event, in a direct mailing campaign, back to school night, CTE open house, etc.. Educating parents about keeping options open for their sons and daughters and expanding their vision of what those options might be is a proven strategy for increasing the participation of students in nontraditional CTE programs.

The magazine will cost $1.50 each plus shipping. If you are interested in ordering copies of this publication please contact Career Communications at 800-669-7795 TODAYThe order form is also attached. You may fax or mail it to the address listed on the form.
