VTEA Funds for Non-Traditional Programs

VTEA funds are used to recruit women into high paying technical careers that are considered non-traditional.  Begun as a pilot project in Spring 2005, the number of women now enrolled in ten non-traditional programs has increased by 135. Once enrolled in a non-traditional program, the students are supported with career counseling, peer support groups, industry field trips, tool scholarships, and care for dependent children.  The non-traditional programs with WIT students enrolled include: Administration of Justice, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision Repair/Painting, Computer Aided Design/Drafting, Construction Technology, Electronics and Computer Hardware Technology, Fire and Emergency Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Machine Tool Technology, and Welding. A benefit soon realized is movement in a positive direction on Core Indicator 4 (non-traditional participation)
