Scan N Talk 10/05
Scan N Talk accesses links in the text like
www.colligo.us and
e-mail addresses like
Info@Colligo.us with a
click of the mouse. With simple keyboard commands you can hear your email or
have a web page read to you. Plus the built in screen reader will read all
other files even PDF.
Simply place your
printed document on the scanner, push one button and in 20 seconds or less,
you can both listen to and see the document in large type on your monitor.
Our Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
program changes the images into text characters. Colligo's Text To Speech
(TTS) platform then converts the words and punctuation into the spoken
word. The scanner, OCR and TTS are similar to a copying machine, a
photocopier with a voice! Once listened to, you can now save that reading
for later use, print it out in large type or even in Braille.
Scan N Talk, with or out the scanner,
allows the visually impaired to have access to the printed word, allows
those with dyslexia to greatly improve word recognition, improves reading
capabilities for the poor reader and those with learning disabilities. And
for those learning a new language associates the printed word with the
spoken sound.

Equity: Access and Support Services for Special
Populations
Particular attention must be given to ensure that practices do not
result in students who are members of special populations either being
excluded from or "tracked" into any specific vocational education programs.
In order to minimize the possibility of infringing upon equal access rights
for students who are members of special populations, a program could, for
example, use a lottery selection to determine admission of applicants to the
full range of vocational education courses. In this way, all interested
students would be afforded an equally random opportunity for admission to
all components of the vocational education program. 11/03

Training Materials
http://www.gse.harvard.edu/~ncsall/teach.html
Improving Practice
These materials are designed for teachers and
professional development staff. Part of NCSALL’s effort to link research and
practice, they have been developed using findings emerging from NCSALL
research. All materials have been piloted with adult students or teachers
and revised on the basis of their feedback.
Teaching materials
are guides for classroom activities that teachers can use to develop adult
students’ literacy skills and knowledge of particular content. Training
materials are guides for professional
development activities, such as study circles, that help teachers develop
their own knowledge and skills in a specific area. 12/02
