Several Partners Build Cosumnes Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Cosumnes River College organized coursework into a short-term construction pre-apprenticeship program, which was operated in partnership with the Construction Management Program, VTEA, a JDIF economic development grant, and a grant from Sacramento Employment Training Agency.

The curriculum was developed in conjunction with the Building Industry Association, Northern California Carpenter’s Regional Council, and a variety of other local partnerships.

VTEA dollars paid for an instructional assistant for the program.  Other partners paid remaining costs.

Over 90 students successfully completed the coursework.

Most of the completers, ESL students, are currently employed at an average wage of $14 per hour, and  are from special populations. 25 percent are women.

As a result, we anticipate an improvement in all core indicators, with particular improvement in core indicator 4.
